Sanchit Khandelwal, a 31-year-old from Sevoke Road, Siliguri, has overcome severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) through a pioneering surgical procedure at Manipal Hospitals, Broadway. This life-threatening condition, characterized by blocked airways during sleep, was particularly rare for someone of Khandelwal’s age and fitness level.
After struggling with CPAP therapy, which he found non-compliant, Khandelwal consulted Dr. Dipankar Datta, a renowned ENT surgeon specializing in sleep surgery. Following a comprehensive assessment, including a polysomnography test, Dr. Datta advised a Multi-level Sleep Surgery to enhance Khandelwal’s airway.
On 8th September, Dr. Datta conducted a series of intricate procedures: an Intra Capsular Tonsillectomy, Barbed Palatopharyngoplasty, and uvuloplasty, successfully widening Khandelwal’s airway. The surgery, which lasted over two hours, is rarely performed and requires a highly skilled team. Khandelwal’s recovery was swift; he was discharged within two days and is now living a revitalized life without CPAP. “This surgery was a lifeline, giving me back my quality of life,” he stated, expressing his deep gratitude to Dr. Datta and his team.
