On Sunday night, two motorcycles collided head-on in the Ashighar Outpost’s Eastern Bypass region, injuring five people—four of them gravely.Four of the injured were sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) because of the severity of their conditions after they were first taken to Siliguri District Hospital. The names of the injured include Bappa Das from Madani Bazaar, Himesh Biswas from Ashighar Colony, Rohan Sarkar from Ghoghomali, and Pramila Roy from Purba Dhantala. One person’s identification is still a mystery.

Three young people were reportedly riding one bike, while a lady and a man were on the other. They were crossing the road in the Eastern Bypass area when the incident happened. When locals saw the collision, they alerted the Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard and Ashighar Outpost right away. Police quickly arrived on the scene and helped move the injured to the hospital. Locals claim that inadequate traffic control and inadequate street illumination are the main causes of the area’s high accident rate. They chastised the administration for ignoring these problems. Police have started looking into the incident in the interim.
