In a noteworthy step, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over the phone on bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues. PM Modi and President Trump emphasized the significance of maintaining momentum in joint efforts to improve bilateral trade during the call. The two leaders discussed the development of the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and expressed gratitude for the consistent improvement of bilateral cooperation in all areas.
In order to implement the India-US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the twenty-first century, the leaders also discussed how to increase cooperation in critical technologies, energy, defense and security, and other priority areas. They talked about a number of regional and international trends and decided to collaborate closely to solve problems and further common goals. Trump declared last month that he will be traveling to India shortly, calling Prime Minister Modi a “great man” and a “friend.”
In response to a query at a White House press conference on November 6, Trump stated that trade talks with India are proceeding “very well.” “We talk, and he wants me to go there. He’s a friend of mine. We’ll work that out. I’ll leave. “I’ll be going, and he’s a great man,” he continued. Trump responded, “It could be, yeah,” when asked if he will visit India the following year. Trump’s remarks followed the White House’s declaration that the two leaders communicate “pretty frequently” and that Trump has a great deal of respect for Prime Minister Modi.
