Illegal call centre busted in Siliguri, three arrested for fraud

Siliguri, Jan 21: In a joint operation by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Matigara police, an illegal call centre operating under the guise of a tour and travel business was busted at Webel IT Park Phase-3 in Siliguri.
The call centre was allegedly duping people, especially those living abroad, by offering various fraudulent offers including health insurance and loan schemes. Following a tip-off, the police raided the call centre and arrested three persons; Randhir Singh from Kolkata, Bablu Modi from Jharkhand and Rana Pratap Barman from Islampur.
The call centre was registered as a “tour and travel” business under the name “Pride Solutions”, but investigation revealed that it was involved in fraudulent activities. During interrogation, it was revealed that the three arrested persons were employees of the call centre, while the owner could not be identified.
The police recovered several computers and telephones from the site. The police have registered a case of fraud against the accused and are working with the cyber team to trace the main suspect. The three arrested persons will be produced in Siliguri court on Wednesday. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
