Heavy Snowfall Hits Himachal and Kashmir, Roads Closed in Upper Areas

Several popular tourist destinations in North India turned white after fresh snowfall, bringing relief from a prolonged dry spell and delighting visitors. Kashmir experienced its first major snowfall of the season on Friday, while Shimla in Himachal Pradesh received snow after nearly three months without significant precipitation. Higher-altitude areas of the state, including Manali and Chopal, also reported snowfall.

The local meteorological department has warned of more snowfall and rainfall in the coming days. In view of the weather conditions, the Shimla district administration issued an advisory asking residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and driving until conditions stabilise.
Snow accumulation in upper regions led to the closure of the Chopal–Deha road, officials said. Visuals shared by ANI showed snow-covered roads, rooftops and trees, highlighting the season’s first major winter spell across these hill regions.
