Harsh Vardhan Shringla initiates comprehensive relief and rehabilitation drive in landslide-affected Darjeeling

Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla undertook a four-day visit from October 6 to 9 across landslide-affected areas of Darjeeling district, including Dudhiya, Mirik, Thurbo, Poobong, Pokhriabong, and Tabakoshi, to assess damage and coordinate relief measures. Serving also as President of the Darjeeling Welfare Society, Shringla supervised the distribution of essential supplies such as food materials, blankets, utensils, tarpaulins, and spades through the Red Cross Society and local BJP karyakartas. Financial support was extended to victims’ families and seriously injured individuals.

Shringla, accompanied by West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose to Dudhiya, highlighted urgent needs including temporary Bailey bridge installation at the collapsed Dudhiya Bridge over the Balasun River, housing rehabilitation via Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin), and ongoing medical support. He also engaged with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and MP Raju Bista to coordinate relief between central and state agencies.

In West Bengal, landslide disruptions have impacted logistics and supply chains across Darjeeling and nearby towns. Local traders report delays in goods transport, particularly for perishable items, while Siliguri continues to serve as a critical distribution hub. Experts believe that restoring connectivity and coordinated relief operations will stabilize market activity and gradually revive trade flows in affected areas. Shringla reaffirmed his commitment to timely assistance and long-term rehabilitation, ensuring comprehensive support for affected communities.
