Green Initiative Aims to Cut Emissions and Boost Accessibility

In a bold move to promote sustainable travel and reduce emissions, the German government has announced a new policy offering free public transportation to all school and university students across the country starting August 2025.

The program, part of Germany’s broader Green Deal initiative, aims to cut urban traffic, lower household expenses, and encourage public transit use among youth. The Ministry of Transport stated that the plan is expected to benefit over 12 million students.

Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Indian states are observing such initiatives closely as they work to improve access to education and reduce transport emissions in growing cities like Dhaka, Thimphu, and Kolkata.
