On March 3, 2024, Chairman KVIC Shri Manoj Kumar addressed the distribution program under GramodyogVikasYojana at Lakshansen outdoor stadium in Jhalijhalia, Malda District, West Bengal, where the ‘New Khadi of New India’ campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given a new direction to the ‘Self-reliant and Developed India Campaign’.
The initiative supports around 50,000 artisans of traditional crafts in West Bengal, including Murshidabad muslin fabric, light weight silk, and heritage Balucharisarees. Over the last decade, Rs.450 crores has been provided in financial assistance and infrastructure support to the Khadi Sector.
The GramodyogVikasYojana of KVIC has distributed various machines, toolkits, and certificates, including 200 bee boxes, 80 West wood machines, 80 Turn wood machines, 60 tool kits to plumbers, wooden toys, 4 sets of fruits and vagitable machines, and 3 sets of Sabai grass machines. 60 Leather toolkits distributed to 60 artisans. More than 25,000 unemployed youth (approximately) in West Bengal have been given Skill Development training through KVIC Training Centres and promotional schemes, to generate self-employment opportunities in traditional industries in last 10 years.
