Gold worth crores recovered from a man’s pocket in Siliguri, detained

Siliguri, November 12: Officials recovered smuggled gold worth crores from a man’s pocket in Siliguri. The action was taken by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) based on a tip-off. The accused person Tapas Saha was arrested for illegal gold smuggling.

According to the report, Tapas Saha was caught during a DRI raid in Sitalkuchi area of ​​Cooch Behar district. After the arrest, he was brought to Siliguri for further interrogation.

After a thorough search at the DRI office in Siliguri, officials found gold biscuits weighing 1.746 kg from his trouser pocket. The value of the seized gold is estimated at ₹1 crore 35 lakh 48 thousand 960.

The recovered gold was reportedly smuggled into India from Bangladesh and was to be further smuggled within the country. On Tuesday, the Siliguri court ordered his judicial custody.
