Esha Singh wins her first individual world championship medal

Esha Singh, a former Asian, Mixed Team, and Junior World champion, added another feather to her crown when she won bronze in the women’s 25-meter pistol Olympic event at the Olympic Shooting Range in Cairo, Egypt, earning her first individual world championship medal. With a final score of 30, the Indian behind both Korea’s current Olympic champion Yang Jiin (gold, score: 40) and in-form Chinese Yao Qianxun (silver, score: 38). At the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Rifle/Pistol, Cairo 2025, Esha’s effort coincided with India’s historic collection of one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals from their participation in the ten Olympic events.

With three gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, India is ranked third overall in the rankings, behind leaders China with ten gold and Korea with six gold. With scores of 587 and 586, respectively, Esha and double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, who started the day in fourth and seventh place, respectively, blasted strong, quick rounds to easily move into the top eight. In the field of 86, Manu qualified sixth, and Esha finished fifth. Yang also won qualifications with a score of 591, following a spectacular 300/300 in the quick round.

Along with the seasoned Iranian Haniyeh Rostamiyan and the former European and junior world champion Lamolle Mathilde of France, Sevval Tarhan of Turkey, a mixed team silver medallist in Paris, also made it. The final eight were Kim Hyon Suk, an unidentified North Korean. The Indian trio ended fourth with a total of 1745, three behind the bronze-winning French team, while Rahi Sarnobat’s 572 was insufficient to earn them a team medal.
