Environmentalists confront police as Sikkim garbage is reportedly dumped in Siliguri

The discovery of garbage in Siliguri that was purportedly transported from Sikkim has alarmed environmental groups.A memorandum asking for action on the event was delivered to the Siliguri Police Commissionerate on Tuesday by representatives of a number of environmental organizations.Sikkim rubbish has reportedly been unloaded at an open space in the Nepali Basti region of Siliguri in recent days, according to sources. Locals notified the police and halted a number of trucks carrying the trash on Monday. After then, officers from the Ambari Outpost showed there and took the cars.

Because of their grave worries about this practice, environmentalists formally sent a memorandum to the Commissionerate on Tuesday, requesting administrative action.Additionally, they declared their intention to notify the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate, and the State Pollution Control Board about the problem.
