Assam declares 31st March to be observed as ‘Student Day’ in the state. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said from this year onwards year every year ‘student Day’ will be observed. First, ‘Student Day’ celebration will take place in Guwahati, Shankardev Kalakshetra.
According to the sources, the day has been marked in honour of Upendra Nath Brahma, a Bodo Social Activist and a prominent students’ leader. Brahma was also the former president of the All Bodo Students Union.
Along with it, the minister has also announced about scholarship schemes and fee waivers for female students. Also other schemes will be launched during the celebration on 31st March for the students in the state like:
- Distribution of 52,000 tablets to schools.
- Scholarship for 26,225 female students from minority communities.
- Mobility grant of Rs. 10,000 for each female student pursing their postgraduation in state universities. The grant would be given to a total of 7,723 students.
- Book grants to 3,41,663 students enrolled in UG courses.
- Mess dues incentive to UG and PG level students
- Fee waiver grants to be given to colleges.
