ED attaches assets worth Rs 538 crore of Jet founder Naresh Goyal

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 538 crore of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, his family members and companies in London, Dubai and India, Central Investigation Agency officials said on Wednesday. They added that the action was taken as part of a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged bank loan fraud.

The attached property has 17 residential flats, bungalows and commercial space, officials said.

Located in London, Dubai and various cities in India, these properties are held in the names of different companies such as Jetair Pvt Ltd and Jet Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Goyal, his wife Anita and son Nivan, the federal agency said in a statement.

Goyal, 74, was arrested by the ED on September 1 and the agency filed a chargesheet against him in a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the ED filed a chargesheet against Goyal and five others in the alleged fraud of Rs 538 crore in Canara Bank. He is currently in judicial custody and lodged in Arthur Road Jail. The chargesheet against Goyal and others was filed in a court here, which is likely to take cognizance of it on Wednesday, a lawyer associated with the case said.

The money laundering case stems from the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) First Information Report (FIR) against Jet Airways, along with the alleged fraud case against Goyal, his wife Anita and some former company officials of the now private airline.
