Diane Keaton Passes at 79—Al Pacino Left Haunted by What Could’ve Been

After a decades-long on-again, off-again romance that started in the 1970s, it’s reported that Al Pacino is filled with regret for not having married Diane Keaton. Keaton, who passed away on Saturday in California at the age of 79, was Pacino’s co-star in the “The Godfather” trilogy, and their off-screen friendship started in 1974. After Keaton was said to have issued him an ultimatum regarding marriage, which he rejected, the two parted ways in 1990.

A friend of the actor commented, “I know he will always regret not making his move when he had the chance.” “Al would often say in the years following his split from Diane, ‘If it’s meant to be, it’s never too late for a do-over.’ But unfortunately, it is now.

“In retrospect, Al acknowledges that Diane was the love of his life; he’s always referred to her as ‘an amazing woman,’” the friend added.

The source states that, despite living close to one another in Beverly Hills, Pacino and Keaton did not keep in touch.

“I asked him why once, and he replied, ‘There’s no need to talk with each other. The source stated, “We said everything that needed to be said at the time.”

In a 2017 interview with the Sunday Times, Keaton discussed her relationship with Pacino, stating that marriage would not have been suitable for them.
“I didn’t even want him to pop the question.” She added, “I just thought maybe he would marry me, eventually.”

“I thought, ‘Let’s just do it,’ don’t even propose,” she added. However, it never occurred, which is fortunate for us both. For him, that would have been a nightmare.

They couldn’t last, she argued, because they were too different.

He needed a woman who would look after him, and I needed a man who would look after me because we are such oddballs. It was just crucial that we bid each other farewell and left each other alone,” she remarked. “But I didn’t choose it.”
Keaton once said that while filming the first “Godfather” picture, she fell profoundly in love with Pacino.

I was furious with him. In 2017, Keaton described herself as “charming, hilarious, and a constant talker” to People. There was a part of him that resembled a lost orphan, a sort of insane savant. Oh, so beautiful!

Despite never getting married, Keaton adopted two kids in her 50s: a boy, Duke, 25, and a daughter, Dexter, 29. Pacino has four children: Julie Marie, age 35; twins Anton and Olivia, age 24; and son Roman, age 2. Pacino has also never married.

At the AFI Life Achievement Award event in 2017, Pacino paid tribute to Keaton.

He remarked, “Di, you’re an artist.” “You’re an amazing artist. I will always love you.

According to reports, Keaton’s ex-boyfriend Woody Allen, who dated her in the early 1970s and worked with her on a number of movies, is apparently “extremely distraught” about her passing.
