Delhi’s air quality is still “Severe” at 452 due to the city’s heavy haze

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the National Capital Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was 452 at around 8 am, placing it in the “Severe” category, demonstrating the city’s ongoing struggles with poor air quality. This keeps up the pattern that was seen on Sunday at roughly 4 p.m., when the AQI was 461. Toxic haze enveloped a large portion of the city, making it difficult to see and uncomfortable for locals. With an AQI of 409, Anand Vihar was classified as “severe” due to its heavy pollution.

Additionally, Yashobhoomi, Akshardham, AIIMS, and Kartavya Path were all covered in a dense layer of fog. Aya Nagar (406), Chandini Chowk (437), RK Puram (477), and Dwarka Sector 8 (462) were among the capital’s locations that fell into the “severe” category, according to CPCB data. With an AQI of 500, Wazirpur too has bad air quality. According to AQI categorization, 0-50 is ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.

On December 12, 19 teams were sent out by the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) to conduct a road inspection drive. This drive was carried out as part of the Commission’s continuous oversight and enforcement of the existing GRAP’s regulations and statutory framework. The announcement states that 136 road segments under the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) control were examined throughout Delhi.
