De De Pyaar De 2, a romantic comedy sequel featuring Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, and Rakul Preet Singh, has experienced varied box office performance since its release on Friday. Initially, the film showed promising results during its opening weekend but faced a significant decline of nearly 70% on its first Monday. However, by Day 5, it demonstrated a slight recovery with an estimated collection of Rs 5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s total box office collection now stands at Rs 44 crore.
On Tuesday, “De De Pyaar De 2” achieved an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 16.53 percent. The film’s performance experienced a gradual improvement throughout the day, starting with a sluggish 7.96 percent occupancy during morning shows, rising to 12.8 percent in the afternoon, maintaining around 16.45 percent in the evening, and concluding with a notable increase to 28.91 percent at night. Regionally, the film performed best in Delhi-NCR, which had the highest number of shows at 1,392 and recorded an occupancy of 19.5 percent. In comparison, Mumbai, hosting 830 shows, reported a slightly better occupancy of 20.5 percent.
Compared to Ajay Devgn’s recent film releases, the performance of De De Pyaar De 2 has been disappointing. His earlier film, Raid 2, grossed Rs 78.75 crore in its first five days, while Drishyam 2 earned Rs 86.49 crore. Even the film Shaitaan outperformed it with Rs 67.75 crore. Furthermore, De De Pyaar De 2 trails significantly behind Devgn’s top recent sequel, Singham Again, which garnered Rs 153.75 crore within the same timeframe last year. However, it has outperformed some of his other recent films, like Son of Sardaar 2, which earned Rs 29.85 crore, and Maidaan, which collected Rs 23.5 crore in their respective five-day openings.
The sequel, De De Pyaar De 2, has been underperforming compared to its predecessor, which earned Rs 50 crore in its first five days. In comparison to other major releases this year, it significantly trails behind Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force and the Diwali film Thamma, which garnered Rs 75 crore and Rs 78.7 crore respectively within the same timeframe. Despite this, De De Pyaar De 2 has outperformed other films like the romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, which collected Rs 37.25 crore, and the historical courtroom drama Kesari Chapter 2, which made Rs 39 crore in five days. As a series of new releases such as 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishq Mein, and Dhurandhar are on the horizon, the film’s ability to sustain its performance in the face of increasing competition remains uncertain.
