Courtyard by Marriott Shillong hosted its first Cake Mixing Ceremony on November 5, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the hotel. The traditional cake-mixing ceremony, which begins one month before Christmas, is believed to bring good fortune and joy. The event involved collecting and incorporating various ingredients into a plum cake, including spirits, dried fruits, cherries, dates, and spices, which are then soaked in alcoholic beverages like brandy, rum, and wine.
The event attracted connoisseurs and popular city faces, who managed the colorful mounds of dry fruits, nuts, and other concoctions to herald in the lively Christmas season. The event was a splendid high tea experience, featuring various desserts such as Spicy apple cake, White chocolate & berry macaroon, Classic Yule log, Curry leaves butter cookies, and Lemon tea cake.
Alongside these sweet treats, the hotel also served delectable dishes like BBQ chicken wings, BBQ pork ribs, and Chicken satay with peanut sauce. Mr. Angat Grewal, Head Chef at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong said, “We were thrilled to see such enthusiasm at our first Cake Mixing Ceremony.
