Siliguri, Jan 10: Tension prevailed in Siliguri on Friday after a hotel management was accused of obstructing the construction of a temple. The situation was controlled after the intervention of the Pradhan Nagar police station.
According to reports, several roads in Siliguri are being cleared by the NHAI for the construction of an elevated road. As part of the process, temples and houses located along the route are being demolished. Of these, the Hanuman temple located near the Regulated Market was shifted by the NHAI and the temple committee was allotted land for reconstruction behind the original site.
On Friday, when the Hanuman temple committee began construction at the new site, a hotel management allegedly objected to the work and started protesting, leading to a dispute.
The situation turned tense for some time but later calmed down after the police intervened to resolve the matter.
