New Delhi: Coal production from captive and commercial mines across the country rose 11.88 percent year-on-year to 73.92 million tonnes (MT) during the April-August period of the current fiscal.
Dry fuel production from captive and commercial mines was recorded at 66.07 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
“The cumulative figures up to August for FY 2025-26 show robust year-on-year growth, with production increasing by 11.88 percent and dispatch increasing by 9.12 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year,” the coal ministry said in a statement.
The increase in production reflects improved operational efficiency across the sector and more effective utilisation of mining capacity.
Coal production from captive and commercial mines in August was recorded at 14.43 million tonnes, while dispatch reached 15.07 million tonnes.
The government has attributed the improved performance of the sector to strategic policy measures, strict monitoring and continued support to stakeholders. These efforts have played a key role in expediting operational approvals and increasing production capacity, leading to overall increase in coal production and dispatch.
The Ministry of Coal has reiterated its commitment to fully utilise the potential of captive and commercial coal mining. Going forward, the focus will be on maintaining consistent production, minimising supply disruptions and making a significant contribution to the country’s growing energy needs.
