Chhaava Holds India Stronghold as Kantara 2 Shatters Global Records

Day 12 Box Office Collection for Kantara 2: It appears that actor-director Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 may finally overtake director Laxman Utekar’s Vicky Kaushal-starring Chhaava, which for eight months held the top spot on the list of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025. Despite not making as much money each day as Chhaava, the Kannada movie is doing well outside of India and has already made more money outside than the Vicky Kaushal-starring movie did over its whole run.

According to preliminary estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, Kantara 2 brought in Rs 13.5 crore on its second Monday in theaters in India, bringing its total domestic profits to Rs 451.90 crore. However, this was a 66.04 percent decline from the film’s Rs 39.75 crore Sunday earnings. The film’s original Kannada and Hindi versions brought in Rs 4.75 crore each, but the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam versions brought in Rs 1.5 crore, Rs 1.35 crore, and Rs 1.15 crore, respectively. As of the present, the film has made Rs 635.5 crore worldwide.

In the Kannada market, Kantara 2 recorded an overall occupancy rate of 34.86% for the day. Even though the occupancy rate started the morning programs at 15.91 percent, it skyrocketed in the afternoon to 30.82 percent. As the day went on, it continued to get better, reaching 43.11 percent during the evening screenings and reaching a high of 49.59 percent at night.

Even though Kantara 2 has been doing well at the box office and has already surpassed Mohit Suri’s Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara to become the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, its daily earnings have lagged behind Chhaava’s, raising doubts about its ability to overtake the Vicky Kaushal-starrer’s total domestic receipts (Rs 601.54 crore). After collecting a second Sunday collection of Rs 40 crore, Chhaava made Rs 18 crore on its second Monday in theaters.
