The state’s power grid operator has requested people to cut down on air-conditioning usage during peak hours to avoid blackouts.
The extreme weather has also fueled wildfires in northern California, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate. Climate experts say such events are becoming more frequent due to global warming.
