British Education in Peril: Thousands of Teaching Posts Remain Unfilled

The British education system is grappling with an alarming teacher shortage. Government data reveals that nearly 40,000 teaching positions remain vacant, the worst figures since the early 1990s. STEM subjects, especially physics and computing, are the hardest hit.

Teachers’ unions blame overwork, low pay, and lack of support, leading to mass resignations. The government has promised bursaries and international recruitment campaigns.

In response, UK-based South Asian educators are being recruited in growing numbers. Agencies are also tapping into trained teachers from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, offering them pathways to permanent residency in exchange for public school service.
