Britain to Monitor AI Use in Public Services, Defence, Health

The UK government has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) oversight body, tasked with regulating ethical use and risk management of AI systems in sensitive sectors like healthcare, defence, and policing. The AI Safety Institute will also collaborate internationally on establishing best practices.

This move comes amid growing concern over unchecked AI deployment across the globe. Indian, Bangladeshi, and Nepali tech experts have welcomed the UK’s initiative, suggesting similar watchdogs should be created in South Asia, where AI is now being used in agriculture and education. The UK plans to host the first Global AI Safety Summit later this year.
