Bangladesh Inaugurates Its First Solar-Powered Express Train

Bangladesh Railways has successfully launched the country’s first partially solar-powered express train, running between Dhaka and Rajshahi. The train uses rooftop solar panels to power lights, fans, and internal systems, reducing diesel dependency.

Officials say the initiative is part of a broader push to modernize the rail sector and meet climate goals. With rising fuel prices, solar integration is expected to cut operational costs by up to 30%.

India and Nepal are also exploring similar models as part of South Asia’s shift towards sustainable transportation.
