In a massive health campaign, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide program providing free Hepatitis C treatment in over 500 public hospitals. The initiative—funded partially by WHO and international donors—seeks to eliminate Hepatitis C as a public health threat by 2030.
Clinics will offer PCR-based testing, antiviral drugs, and post-treatment follow-up. The government estimates that 2 million people will benefit from the campaign, most of whom belong to low-income communities.
Neighboring countries like India and Nepal are exploring similar models to expand affordable Hepatitis treatment, particularly in rural and underserved areas where early diagnosis rates are low.
