Bajaj General Insurance enters fetal care segment with ‘Fetal Flourish’ rider at ₹1,025 premium

Bajaj General Insurance Limited has expanded its health insurance portfolio with the launch of Fetal Flourish, a dedicated fetal health insurance rider aimed at addressing the growing demand for coverage of advanced in-utero medical procedures and high-risk pregnancies.

Announced in Pune on January 14, the rider is priced at ₹1,025 and is offered along with the insurer’s flagship health products, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard. The move marks a strategic entry into a largely underserved segment of prenatal care insurance in India. The coverage is available for women aged 18 to 45 years, with a waiting period of nine months from policy inception. Under the rider, policyholders are eligible for coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy. Fetal Flourish covers 16 specialised in-utero interventions, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetoscopic laser surgery, fetal reduction, intrauterine transfusion, and surgeries for neural tube defects and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Industry data indicates that nearly 17% of women in India now give birth after the age of 35, leading to a rise in pregnancy-related complications and the need for costly fetal interventions that are often uninsured.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD and CEO of Bajaj General Insurance, said the offering aims to reduce the financial burden during medically complex pregnancies and reflects the company’s focus on innovation and early-stage health protection. The launch positions Bajaj General Insurance as an early mover in integrating modern fetal medicine with health insurance, adding a new dimension to India’s maternal care ecosystem.
