Backlash Meets Rebuttal: Why Tehseen Calls Salman’s Galwan Expression ‘Composed’

Political analyst and former Bigg Boss contestant Tehseen Poonawalla has defended actor Salman Khan in light of recent online backlash regarding a brief smile in the teaser for his upcoming film, Battle of Galwan. This film is a war drama inspired by actual events, and certain social media users have criticized Khan’s expression as inappropriate for the context of the movie.

Tehseen responded to the criticism by asserting on X that the interpretation of the moment is flawed. He believes that Salman Khan’s expression demonstrates a sense of inner control and psychological strength, contradicting claims of casualness or inappropriate emotional display.

Tehseen defends Salman’s slight smile in the Battle of Galwan teaser, interpreting it as a sign of composure and calm aggression rather than casualness. He suggests that this expression reflects the mindset of a soldier aware of the imminent danger yet unyielding in the face of the enemy.

Tehseen elaborated on the scene, illustrating the mentality of a trained soldier conditioned for the harsh truths of combat. He referenced the film’s dialogue to emphasize its profound philosophical themes.

When a soldier enters the battlefield, the two possible outcomes are victory—protecting the nation—or sacrifice for it. Both outcomes are portrayed as victories, establishing a perspective where fear is absent.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, “Battle of Galwan” is a cinematic portrayal of the intense clash that occurred between Indian and Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Salman Khan stars as the main character, with Chitrangada Singh alongside him in a prominent role. The supporting cast is comprised of Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, Abhilash Chaudhary, Vipin Bhardwaj, and Heera Sohal. Initially anticipated for release around Eid 2026, the film’s official theatrical launch date has now been set for April 17, 2026.
