Anurag Goel, the chief electoral minister officer of Assam has announced that the final voter list for the arising election in the five assembly constituencies to be released on 8th August.
Goel completed the schedule and preparations for the by-elections, during the press conference on Friday in constituencies of Dholai(SC) Sidli(ST) Bongaigaon, Behali and Samaguri. The seats became empty as the past MLAs were elected to Lok Sabha.
Goel highlighted that the Election Commission has started preparations for the by-elections, that should be occurred within the six months of the Lok Sabha election results. Goel highlighted that the elections may be based on the separation status of the constituencies.
The latest Lok Sabha elections were the first after the controversial separation activity in Assam, praised by the opposite parties as being unfair towards the ruling BJP. The Election Department shared pre-draft electoral rolls of the pre-separation constituencies with the known political parties on Saturday, seeking their feedback by July 27. The draft voter lists to be published on July 30, and public can submit claims and objections until August 10.
As per the recent updates for the Lok Sabha polls, claims and objections will be done offline this time. After handling the submissions by August 19, the final voter list will be uploaded on 20 August, according to Goel.
By-elections to the five Assembly constituencies in Assam will be hold on based on the pre-separation constituencies, as per Election Commission of India (ECI) rules. The separation in Assam last year did not change the number of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies, which continued to exist at 14 and 126, respectively, but changed their areas and boundaries.
