All About Suzuki’s Made-In-India Battery Pack

Maruti Suzuki has officially inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event also marked the launch of India’s first plant for producing hybrid battery electrodes, with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Ono in attendance. This Hansalpur plant will be the central hub for producing the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki’s global EV, which debuted in Europe and was showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Built on the 40PL EV platform developed with Toyota, the e-Vitara will also be rebadged as the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.

The facility will additionally manufacture batteries for the Grand Vitara Hybrid locally. The Li-ion battery and electrode production at the TDSG plant—a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki—was also inaugurated by PM Modi. The TDSG battery features a 48-cell stack weighing 18 kg, with a 0.6 kWh capacity. The Grand Vitara hybrid uses a 1.5L engine paired with an eCVT and a 177.6V battery, delivering 115.56 hp and 112 Nm torque. Maruti Suzuki plans to invest over ₹70,000 crore in India, with the Hansalpur plant capable of producing 750,000 vehicles annually.
