Suzlon Energy has appointed Ajay Kapur as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition as the renewable energy major sharpens its focus on expansion and long-term value creation.
The announcement comes as part of the company’s broader “Suzlon 2.0” vision, under which it has also constituted a Group Executive Council (GEC) to guide its strategic direction and accelerate business transformation across the organization.
According to a company statement, the newly formed GEC will play a key role in steering high-level strategy and ensuring structured succession planning. As part of this leadership realignment, J. P. Chalasani has been elevated to the Group Executive Council, where he will work closely with the Chairman & Managing Director and the Executive Vice Chairman in shaping and executing strategic initiatives across the group.
Chalasani will continue to serve as a Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) and will report to Chairman & Managing Director Vinod Tanti. The move reflects Suzlon’s emphasis on maintaining leadership continuity while strengthening governance structures.
Ajay Kapur, who brings over 36 years of professional experience, will now lead the group’s transformation efforts, focusing on scaling operations, improving efficiencies, and preparing the organization for its next phase of growth. As Group CEO, Kapur will report directly to Vinod Tanti.
In addition to the GEC, Suzlon has also formed an Executive Management Council led by the Group CEO. This council will be responsible for driving operational excellence, delivering impactful transformation initiatives, and ensuring sustainable growth across the group’s businesses.
The restructuring underscores Suzlon’s intent to institutionalize leadership processes and align management structure with its long-term strategic objectives. The company said the transition is designed to strengthen accountability and enhance agility in a rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.
Commenting on the development, Executive Vice Chairman Girish Tanti said the company is entering a pivotal phase of its journey. He noted that Suzlon is at a “phenomenal juncture” as it embarks on the next chapter of growth, with a clear focus on innovation, operational discipline, and value creation for stakeholders.
Suzlon, one of India’s leading renewable energy solutions providers, has been playing a crucial role in advancing wind energy deployment across the country. The leadership changes come at a time when India’s clean energy sector is witnessing rapid expansion, supported by ambitious climate goals and increasing demand for sustainable power solutions.
Industry observers view the appointment of Kapur and the formation of the GEC as strategic steps aimed at reinforcing Suzlon’s competitive position. By creating a structured executive framework, the company aims to accelerate decision-making, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and deliver consistent performance.
With fresh leadership at the helm and a new executive council in place, Suzlon appears poised to pursue its transformation agenda under the Suzlon 2.0 strategy—focused on growth, governance, and long-term sustainability.
Further updates on the company’s strategic roadmap and performance outlook are expected in the coming quarters.
