Air India suspend Delhi–Washington DC service from September 1

On September 1, 2025, Air India will terminate nonstop flights between Delhi and Washington, DC, citing a number of operational considerations meant to protect the dependability and integrity of its route network. The choice is made as the airline begins a comprehensive upgrade program for 26 of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which was introduced last month. Although the renovations are meant to greatly improve the traveler experience, they will cause several aircraft to remain out of service until at least the end of 2026. Furthermore, the ongoing blockade of Pakistani airspace has made Air India’s long-haul flights more difficult by requiring longer flight paths and raising operational complexity.

If a passenger’s reservation for a Delhi–Washington DC flight is held past September 1, they will be contacted immediately and given the option of full refunds or rebooking on another flight. In conjunction with Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, Air India will continue to offer one-stop connections to Washington, DC, through its US gateway cities, New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Chicago, and San Francisco, even after the suspension. Travelers will be able to finish their trip on a single itinerary with their luggage checked through to their destination thanks to these interline agreements.
