AINU Siliguri becomes North Bengal’s first hospital to launch advanced Robotic Surgery Programme

The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) Hospitals has launched North Bengal’s first advanced robotic surgery programme for urology and nephrology at its Siliguri centre, marking a major step in expanding access to precision-driven kidney and urological care in the region. The initiative is expected to benefit patients from North Bengal, Northeast India, and neighbouring areas who earlier had to travel to metro cities for such advanced procedures.

The robotic system will enable a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, including robotic prostate cancer surgery, partial and radical nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, ureteric reimplantation, bladder surgeries, complex reconstructive urology, kidney transplants, and paediatric robotic procedures when indicated. According to Dr. Joydeep Ghose, Executive Director and Senior Consultant Urologist at AINU Siliguri, the programme aims to bring “world-class robotic procedures closer to home,” ensuring ethical and patient-centric care. AINU CEO Sandeep Guduru said the programme strengthens the institute’s commitment to technologically advanced, minimally invasive treatment supported by experienced surgeons and evidence-based clinical protocols.

The launch significantly strengthens Siliguri’s position as a growing regional medical hub. The availability of advanced robotic surgery is expected to attract patients from neighbouring states and border regions, boosting the city’s healthcare economy while reducing treatment travel costs for patients. The hospital stated that the robotic platform offers 3D high-definition visualization, 10× magnification, and tremor-free precision, enabling faster recovery, smaller incisions, and improved clinical outcomes.
