After undergoing wrist surgery, Maxwell hopes to return for the finish of the India T20s

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has provided an update following surgery on his fractured wrist, stating that he hopes to make a comeback starting on October 29 during the latter stages of the T20I series against India. At Tauranga’s Bay Oval, Maxwell lost the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy T20I series last month after breaking his wrist bowling in the nets to fellow all-rounder Mitchell Owen. Last week, in an attempt to hasten his recuperation, he had surgery to repair his shattered right wrist.

However, Maxwell was left off of Australia’s roster for the first two Twenty20 Internationals against India, but they were able to call him up for the last three games starting on November 2. “If I can get myself right, having the surgery last week gives me a little more hope of playing some part of that India series,” Maxwell said to reporters in Melbourne. “The only reason I had the surgery was because I was given two options: either have surgery and have a slim chance, or miss that (India series) entirely and (avoid) surgery.”

“So I give myself the best chance to hopefully play a part and if not, I’ll be ready earlier for the BBL, which puts me in a good position to take care of the rest of my body,” he continued. Maxwell is expected to return for the Melbourne Stars’ opening BBL 15 game on December 18 after having the cast taken off his arm and starting some simple movement exercises. “It was just an unfortunate incident,” Maxwell said of the blow he received when he was hit by Owen’s straight pull shot during training in New Zealand under an indoor tent.

You probably don’t hear about it, but it does happen occasionally. The position in which it struck my arm was certainly a little unlucky for me. “I believed I was lucky that it only struck bone and not too much flesh when it hit me, and everything would be well. However, there are a number of circumstances that make it an unlucky one. It simply returns far too quickly. He went on, “It’s not enjoyable.
