According to a study, COVID-19 may cause women’s blood vessels to age by five years

An international study recently found that COVID-19 may accelerate the aging of blood vessels by up to five years, particularly in women. Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart attacks and strokes, would become far more likely as a result. The study included 2,390 individuals from 16 nations, including the US, UK, France, and India, and ran from September 2020 to February 2022. Professor Rosa Maria Bruno of Université Paris Cité, the study’s primary investigator, said, “We know that Covid can directly modify blood vessels. Early vascular aging, which makes your blood vessels appear older than they actually are, may occur from this. This raises your risk of heart disease.

Women were shown to be more affected than males, particularly if they were suffering from chronic long-term Covid symptoms, including exhaustion and dyspnea. One explanation could be because women’s immune systems are more robust, which may lead to more long-term vascular damage even while they are protective in the short term.
