Bangladesh has officially launched its first satellite-based broadband internet service, aiming to improve connectivity in rural and remote regions.
The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 project, managed by Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL), promises high-speed, low-cost internet access to previously underserved areas. Officials hope this move will boost education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship across the country.
Neighboring countries like Nepal and Bhutan, also grappling with internet access issues in mountainous regions, are closely observing Bangladesh’s satellite strategy as a potential model for regional connectivity expansion.
