Pradhan Nagar Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly smuggling 20 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside the bonnet of a car. The accused have been identified as Prasenjit Barman and Samir Roy, both hailing from the Cooch Behar district. The police have also seized the vehicle used in the transportation of the illegal substance.
As per police sources, a tip-off was received on Wednesday night regarding an attempt to smuggle cannabis from Cooch Behar to Siliguri in a four-wheeler. Acting swiftly on the information, officers intercepted a white car near the State Guest House and carried out a thorough search of the vehicle.
During the inspection, officers discovered two large packets, each containing 10 kilograms of cannabis, hidden in the car’s bonnet. During initial questioning, the two suspects confessed to bringing the narcotics to Siliguri with the intention of selling or handing them over to someone.
Police estimate that the total market value of the seized cannabis amounts to several lakh rupees. A detailed investigation is currently underway to trace others possibly involved in the smuggling network.
